Cathy Mailander
MD, FAAP
Dr. Cathy Mailander is a native of Southern California. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Molecular Biology and Anthropology. She was also a varsity rower for three years and was on the Olympic Development Crew Team in 1989.
Dr. Mailander attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego. While in medical school she was active in DOC, Doctor’s Ought to Care, an outreach program to discourage the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs in the youth of San Diego. Her graduate thesis was on invasive bacterial infections in patients infected with HIV. Dr. Mailander did her pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She worked for one year in the Emergency Department at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., before joining a pediatric practice in Frederick, Maryland.
Since arriving at our practice in July 2008, Dr. Mailander as engaged in a variety of activities in our area. She has acted as a preceptor to both medical students and pediatric residents getting their pediatric primary care clinical experiences at the practice. Dr. Mailander has participated in the HCPSS Intern-Mentor Program as a mentor to high school students interested in an experience in pediatric medicine. She served briefly on the board of Family and Children Services in Howard County.
Dr. Mailander lives in Ellicott City with her husband and two children and their black laborador, Atticus. Her children have attended Howard County public schools and have been active in academic, musical, and athletic pursuits. Her family enjoys outdoor activities and travel.
